A Domestigay Thanksgiving

Dearest Domestigays,

It has been awhile.  I have been quite busy with many domestigay projects—including the Midwest Men’s Knitting Retreat! (expect post on this soon)

So let’s work our ways back to the post on the knitting retreat.  Let’s begin with this past week and the first domestigay adventures in the kitchen.  Yes, that’s right.  I made Thanksgiving dinner—Turkey and all.

So what was on the menu?  I’m glad you asked!

  • Lil’ Smokey Cheeseball (cause everyone needs a cheeseball)
  • Turkey
  • Turkey Gravy
  • Stuffing (not cooked in the turkey)
  • Homemade Mashed Potatoes
  • Cranberry Relish
  • Green Beans (fried and with bacon)
  • Pumpkin Pie

Because I actually had a few extra hands from my boyfriend (who got to spend an entire week with me!) There are actually pictures of domestigay baking in progress!
There’s also a picture of him chopping apples for the cranberry relish!
Yup, that’s right, domestigays, I had a great Thanksgiving and gave thanks for a lot!  Some of the things I am grateful are:
  • You! My loyal domestigay reader.
  • My family
  • My boyfriend
  • My friends near and far
  • My ability to craft and cook
  • My community (in the various forms it takes)
  • My health
  • My Thanksgiving
Your turn.  What were you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
I was thankful for my ability to take my shirt off while cooking too.  It’s amazing how much heat comes from such a small kitchen.  Speaking of heat… did you notice the moustache in these pictures? That’s right, MOvember is well underway.  My stache is there.  Have you occupied my face, yet?  If not, there is still time!  Go to http://mobro.co/jvanfosson and donate!  You can also share this YouTube video I made here.
More posts to come, very soon, too!

Gayzpacho

Hey, there, domestigayers!  It’s time for the first-ever domestigay recipe.

Meet Dana.  Dana is a graduate student in Texas.  Graduate students have a special place in my domestigay heart.  Dana made this delicious-looking gazpacho soup, or as I like to call it, gayzpacho soup!

Doesn’t it just look deeeelicious?  Guess what!  Dana from Texas also shared the recipe so you, too, can have gayzpacho soup!  You domestigayers in the warmer climates will need to try this cold soup.

Why haven’t YOU submitted your craft, cooking, knitting, cross stitch, embroidery, needlework, jewelry making, bedazzling, crochet, stitching, baking to domestigay yet?  You can do it on Facebook, on twitter (@domestigay), or by e-mailing domestigay@gmail.com.

Cocktail Napkin #2: Martini!

What is this? TWO domestigay posts in ONE day?  How can it be?  Procrastination is the key!

I love martinis.  I almost had a martini last night called “Sexy Bartender,” but decided a gin and tonic was in order.  Martinis are delicious.  They can be even more delicious when consumed with a hand-stitched cocktail napkin.  Check it out.

Can you tell I was stressed when I stitched the bottom half?  Look at how small those stitches are compared to the rest!  I used a split stitch for the olive.  I don’t like the split stitch very much because it never looks how I think it should look in my head.  This is much closer to how I think it should look though.

This pattern comes from the Sublime Stitching book.  I tell ya, that Jenny Hart makes cool stuff.

Cheers!

UPDATED: A Domestigay Birthday Brunch

Many gays have been great domestigators before domestigay even existed.  One of those people is Peter.  He is a multi-talented domestigator who does everything from cross-stitching to elaborate model building.  He is also an amazing cook.  Today is Peter’s birthday and to celebrate he made a domestigayed brunch.

Peter explains in his e-mail that this is one of his favorite birthday (or anytime) brunches.  Eggs Benedict, potatoes O’Brien, extra dry Korbel champagne, and raspberries! Oh my!  Everyone knows that brunch is considered the gayest meal of the day, and why shouldn’t it be?  It is the most fabulous meal of the day, too!  What other meal allows you to consume alcohol before church has let out after a night of drinking without any judgement?  Also, check out the gorgeous table setting and the peek of flowers coming in the corner of the picture. Serious domestigating happening there!

Luckily for Peter, he has a dishwasher to do the cleaning so he can enjoy his brunch, take a nap, and prepare for a magical birthday dinner this evening.  Let’s all wish this domestigay brother a very…

Happy Domestigay Birthday, Peter!

UPDATE

*               *               *

Peter sent an update of his special birthday dinner that he made.  And let me tell you it looks domestigay delicious!

This amazingly good-lookin’ meal includes: Filet de Australian Boeuf on a toasted round, sauteed portobelo mushrooms and onions with sherry, organic artichoke with hollandaise sauce (recycled from the brunch), and sliced tomato and avocado salad with blue cheese vinaigrette dressing.  My domestigay mouth is watering just thinking/looking/writing about this meal.  Yum. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!  There’s more!  For dessert Peter had raspberries and vanilla bean ice cream with decaf coffee.

Peter writes, “I enjoyed myself, even though eating solo.  Those of us with summer birthdays have a different attitude.  When we were growing up, school was out so classmates couldn’t be invited for a party.  I remember being put in a car and going to Florida or California for vacation.  I thought I was more special.  After all, who would rather go on a vacation as opposed to having a bunch of juveniles over (even baring gifts) and playing pin the tail on the donkey?”

I agree Mr. Peter.  I have a summer birthday and it is awesome.  I loved not having to go to school on my birthday while my peers did.  In fact, that may be the reason that I ended up going down the educational tract and becoming a professional student.  I never have to go to work on my birthday! It seems like Peter was a very busy domestigator on his birthday.  I hope it was a great birthday, Peter, and vacation is in your near future!
